Jane Abdy contends that "Grasset's ambition was to design stained glass windows" (Abdy p. 116). And with this image, used to advertise a decorative arts exhibition at the Grafton Gallery in London, we can see how the artist's heavy outlining, mix of colors and division of space clearly anticipates this outcome. In fact, a year later, Felix Gaudin turned the design into a stained glass window entitled Le Printemps (Spring). The image of a pale, symbolist young woman, enveloped in her flowing scarf, picking flowers, is exquisitely rendered. DFP-II 406, Berthon & Grasset p.31, Abdy p. 117, Anne Murray Robertson p. 117.
