Additional Details

Arthur Burdett Frost (1851-1928) was one of the great artists of the "Golden Age of American Illustration." Although he was red-green color blind, this did not pose a great handicap to him, since he usually worked in muted shades as in this image. Also, his works were often reproduced in black-and-white. When painting with color Frost managed to work successfully by reading the labels on the tubes and placing the colors in a specific order on his palette. His illustrations for The Lady of the Lake were published in 1883 by James R. Osgood & Co., Boston, as part of the illustrated Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott.
