G. FAVRE CYCLES DILECTA. Circa 1930.
451/2x29 inches. Gaillard, Paris.
Condition A-: minor restoration and discoloration in margins; creases in image.
Although the 1890s were considered the Golden Age of bicycle posters, the 1930s saw their fair share of bicycle advertising in an artistic style that reflected the era. This image, with the lightning bolt evoking power, and the aerodynamic biker evoking speed, is a good example of how Art Deco stylization and geometry was manifested within the genre. Further strength within the image is achieved via the sophisticated artistic technique with its use of white outlining, efficient use of colors and the arrow actually pointing to the brand name.
