To help raise money to benefit the victims of a disastrous hurricane, Colin designed this poignant image devoid of any unnecessary ornamentation. Colin depicts the almost washed-out form of a native woman, lying with her child on her right arm. The image is sensitive and touching, evoking both the natural disaster and the trauma it inflicted on the islanders. Colin was always ready to donate his services when asked to design a poster for a charity (See Nuit de la Fourrure lot 33). He was familiar with causes that raised money for disaster victims, as he had already designed an image similar to this one when a typhoon hit Madagascar. For this image, however, it was the French West Indies and the Island of Guadeloupe that were ravaged by a terrible hurricane between the 12th and 17th of September, 1928.
