Additional Details

In full: "It is intended to have a public meeting for the purpose of urging on Congress the necessity of settling, during this session, the Tariff question on principles of mutual concession and such as may allay the ferment and restore harmony. If this important object is practicable, it can, it is believed, be effected only through the mediation of New York. I wish you to take a part in this patriotic undertaking and pray you to be kind enough to call on me for that purpose tomorrow morning between eight & nine."
