GEORGE GROSZ
Collection of approximately 40 drawings.

Bound album with approximately 40 pencil, charcoal and brush and ink and wash drawings on paper adhered to paper mounts, 1940s-50s. 495x385 mm; 19 1/2x15 1/8 inches (album sheets). Ex-collection Carl Podszus, New York, until November 1979; Carl Burger, Union, New Jersey.

According to a letter accompanying this lot, written by the previous owner Dr. Carl Podszus of New York University, November 19, 1979, Grosz (1893–1959) made these drawings on Dr. Podszus' sketch pads while he was studying at the Art Students League, New York, where Grosz taught intermittently from 1938 to 1955.

Ralph Jentsch has confirmed the authenticity of these works in a letter from from Rome, dated April 18, 2013. Jentsch notes "I would consider these sketches as an interesting collection of drawings that resemble Grosz's method as a teacher."
