GEORGES MEUNIER (1869-1942)

BRUNNEN SUISSE. Circa 1904.

42x28¾ inches, 106¾x73 cm. Chaix, Paris.
Condition B+: repaired tears, small replaced losses and restoration in margins and image; creases along horizontal fold; darkening at edges; faded.

An image of the luxurious Hotel Grand Palais in Brunnen, a small town on the shore of Lake Lucerne. The blueprints for the hotel were drawn around 1901 by architect Emil Vogt, who established himself as a forerunner in hotel planning, and the hotel was constructed in just over a year. This field of architecture experienced a boom around Lake Lucerne at the turn of the century, until the Swiss hotel building ban in 1915. The structure is no longer a hotel, but the architecture details, including the entryway bridge from the street level still exist. Le Tennis A l'Affiche p. 26.
