Herbert Matter was one of the pioneers and early masters of the art of photomontage, and in 1934 he revolutionized travel posters by bringing those techniques to the medium. This poster is one in the groundbreaking series of Swiss travel posters he made from 1934-36. The realizations of his vision helped to recast both the concept of the travel poster and the nature of photographic advertising images.
