HOWE, WILLIAM. Two Autograph Letters Signed, "WHowe" or "Wm:Howe," to General [Alexander] Ross or "Dear George." The first, expressing satisfaction at his letter, stating that he need not wait for further communication, requesting reports of his movements, and closing mysteriously with "[U]pon the event about to take place, you will be so good to let me know if I should be in Town previous to the departure. Nothing will transpire from me." The second, confirming that he had in fact written to him, suggesting that his son might have received the letter instead of him, explaining that he could not obtain a commission for his son, and promising to approve any opportunity that arises. Each 1 page, 4to or square 8vo, first with integral address leaf; second with short closed separations repaired verso with cello tape and moderate scattered staining, folds.
