JACQUES GRUBER (1870-1939) VILLE DE NANCY / CONCOURS DE TIR. 1906.
33 3/4x24 inches, 86x61 cm. Nancy.
Condition A- / B+: restoration and repaired tears along vertical and horizontal folds.
Gruber studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Nancy, and became a professor at the age of 23. He specialized in glass, worked for Daum and Majorelle, and was considered the most important stained-glass window artist of the period. He was a founding member of the Ecole de Nancy. To the best of our knowledge this is the only poster he designed. Advertising a shooting competition in Nancy, he depicts a delectable allegory holding up a target, and looking back over her shoulder. Rare.
