Tooker (1920-2011) met Cadmus in 1944, while he was a student at the Art Students League, New York, and Cadmus was a already an established artist, 16 years Tooker's senior. Cadmus encouraged Tooker's art study and introduced him to Jared and Margaret French, among others, and Tooker soon became close with this circle of artists.
