JEAN CHASSAING (1905-1938)

LA LIGNE / AURORE EST INIMITABLE. Circa 1930.

62x46 inches, 158x117 cm. Daude Frères, Paris.
Condition A-: minor repaired tears at edges, one slightly into lower right text; minor creases and abrasions in margins and image.

A poster for a brand of women's shoes produced by Heyraud. The well-conceived and well-drawn image approaches the status of Art Deco "Object Poster," with the large shoe in the center, the row of shoes across the top representing the entire product line, the stylized typography and the good use of dark and light colors in the design. But Chassaing adds an extra touch: gracefully extending over the center shoe itself is the lithe silhouette of a woman reaching toward the row of shows at the top. Her form is as chic and aerodynamic as the shoes themselves, elegantly representing the fashionable women who wear these shoes.
