A signed letter is affixed to the frame from Walt Reed of Illustration House, dated November 30, 1980: "To whom it may concern: This is to verify my opinion that the unsigned painting (oval, size 21x18") 'Girl in Flowers' is the work of illustrator Joseph Christian Leyendecker (1874-1951)."
