JOSEPH W. JICHA (1901-1960) BAL DES ARTS. 1928.
37 1/4x23 inches, 95x58 cm. The Crane-Howard Litho. Co.
Condition B+: repaired tears, restoration and overpainting along vertical and horizontal folds; minor repaired tears at edges; restored loss in bottom right corner.
Another of Jicha's extraordinary contributions to the Club's pervasive hedonist oeuvre, featuring a couple emerging from a flaming blossom and ascending towards a bright star. It is a dynamic composition, showing dancers in the background, which hints at the revelry of the event. Bright, bold, and daring, this decadent cubist-influenced image is an electric, microcosmic view of one of America's avant-garde art clubs of the 20th century. Posters for these yearly events also served as invitations, with the invitees name written in red crayon at the bottom.
