Clipper ships in harbor. Albumenized salted paper, 11 3/4x16 1/4 inches (29.8x42.5 cm.), with Le Gray's red facsimile hand stamp signature on print recto, and a period crest on mount recto. Circa 1857

According to photo-historian Naomi Rosenblum, Le Gray was responsible for improvements on the paper negative, "specifically waxing them before exposure to make the paper more receptive to fine detail."
