LEO MARFURT (1894-1977) BRUXELLES EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE. 1935.
39x24 3/8 inches. Les Creations Publicitaires, Brusselles.
Condition A-: creases and abrasions in margins and image; horizontal fold.
Marfurt emigrated to Belgium in 1923 and quickly rose to prominence within the graphic arts community. He ran his own agency, "Les Creations Publicitaires," through which he designed memorable advertising campaigns for Minerva, Remington, Chrysler and the Belgian Railroad. With his high profile he was the clear choice to help promote the World Exhibition in Brussels in 1935. The modern, geometrical depiction of a classical subject shows Atlas (within a shield representing the city of Brussels), with the world on his shoulders.
