Libra was one of Holland's leading creative design studios after the Second World War. Among their top clients were Philips and the Dutch Government, both for whom they generated posters in an elegant, post Art Deco style (see Swann Modernist Poster Catalogue #1970, lot 78). The publishers, Nigh & Van Ditmar, were a large advertising agency who had worked with Cassandre many times before the war. For this motor oil they present a large image of the product out of which is flying a graceful, stylized swallow. We are definitely no longer in the Machine Age, as hard geometric lines have been replaced by soft symbolism.
