LUCIAN BERNHARD (1883-1972) [LUCIAN BERNHARD.] Two books. 1913, 1916.
Sizes vary.
Condition varies, generally A-.
Two indispensable books for Bernhard collectors: Bernhard and Tabak und Reklame. The first, a monograph of the work of the artist, was the brainchild of the tireless Karl Ernst Oshaus, who was both the founder of the Folkwang Museum in Essen and a founding member of the Werkbund. It was the third in a series of three monographs about the most important German commercial artists (an idea which the French never thought of during their poster golden age!), including Ehmke and Julius Klinger. Tabak und Reklame, although not only about Bernhard, is the most comprehensive reference concerning his work for the cigarette maker Manoli, and features lithographic tip-ins of posters, packaging and more.
