LUDWIG HOHLWEIN (1874-1949) FRÜHLING IN WIESBADEN. Circa 1930.
35x23 1/2 inches, 89x59 1/2 cm. F. Bruckmann A. G., Munich.
Condition B+: repaired tears and creases in margins and image; restored pin-holes in corners.
Hohlwein did several travel posters for Germany based on the different seasons; this one may have given him particular pleasure as he was a Wiesbaden native. He designed two separate images promoting travel to the region in Spring, and both depict the main spa building, which was designed by his teacher Friedrich von Thiersch (Hohlwein p. 217). For this image he also portrays a statuesque, allegorical figure who is carrying golf clubs, Wiesbaden's crests and a bowl of the spa's curative waters. Stutgard 289, Hohlwein MSt a 17/80.
