LUDWIG HOHLWEIN (1874-1949) INTERNATIONALE EINFUHR-MESSE. 1919.
281/2x19 inches. Wüsten & Co., Frankfurt.
Condition B+: creases and restoration in margins; horizontal fold.
To promote the first International Import fair held in Frankfurt after World War I, Hohlwein renders a spectacular nighttime scene. A train, dramatically seen from below, is crossing a bridge and dropping flyers that are, in fact, flags of the different countries participating in the fair. Hohlwein uses the white of the paper to make the text, and several of the flyers ingeniously stand out from the dark coloration of the poster. This is the smaller version of the poster that also exists with a different color variation. Hohlwein/Munich 235, Hohlwein/Stutgart 176, Hohlwein pl. 97, Zwanziger Jahre p. 23.
