Latin School Plays.
Four Comedies Performed at Cambridge University in 1648.
Including the following 12mo titles issued together with the same imprint: London: Typis R[ichard] C[otes] sumptibus Andr. Crooke, 1648; John Hacket's Loiola; Stoicus Vapulans; and Cancer; and Thomas Vincent's Paria; with separate dated title pages for each play, pagination and collation continuous; lacking final two blanks; bound in later blind-tooled calf, rebacked, 5 x 2 3/4 in.

These Latin comedies follow in a long humanistic educational tradition that uses theatre as part of a young scholar's experiences at school. Written by professors to be performed by young people, English schools and colleges enjoyed extensive play craft as part of their curricula throughout the Renaissance, into the Early Modern period and beyond.
