MARIAN E. WILLIAMS (DATES UNKNOWN)

FLEXIBLE FLYER / JAMES CAMPION, INC. Circa 1950s.

36½x23¾ inches, 92¾x60½ cm.
Condition A-: minor repaired tears, restoration and overpainting along edges.

This poster has been overprinted with various brand names, like Eddie Bauer and Splitkein itself, as well as ski locations, like "Bread Loaf Snow Bowl, VT" "Old Forge, NY." James Campion, Inc., a menswear store, was founded in Hanover in 1906, by James Campion, Sr. His "son Jim took over the business in 1926, and managed it until his death in 1968. In the 1950s the Campions opened a Ladies' department which became a growing portion of its merchandise selection, eventually becoming the main business" (https://archives-manuscripts.dartmouth.edu/). The depiction of a female skier in this Flexible Flyer poster, suggests that at least the overprint dates to the 1950s.
