ORSI (1889-1947) PHILIPS. 1934. 45 1/4x30 3/8 inches. Phogor. Condition B+: repaired minor tears and creases in margins and image. We know nothing about Orsi's life except that he was a prolific artist whose art skirted the edge of modernism. His posters, filled with life and movement, are all marked by good ideas and a true sense of poster advertising. This poster could have been a great image but for the advertiser's meddling with the artist's vision. The globes, with their red roofs, cleverly convey the tag-line that Philips is "under each roof." However, the addition of the packaging itself and the additional typography at the bottom are not at all in the accomplished style of the artist.
