These early, inline roller skates were the brainchild of Charles Choubersky, an engineer and avid inventor. Primarily a railway engineer, Choubersky made his fame and fortune by designing a highly-regarded, portable wood stove. That Choubersky's skates were easy to use is beautifully demonstrated here by Pal, who depicts a woman gliding effortlessly by a man who is incapable of standing upright on his ice skates.
