PAUL COLIN (1892-1986) CORA MADOU. 1929.
62x46 inches. H. Chachoin, Paris.
Condition B: water stains and repaired tears in margins. Framed.
L'Etrange Cora Madou (The Strange Cora Madou), as she was called on her earliest records, was a realist singer, which is how Colin depicts her: completely without artifice, with a serious expression, piercing eyes, a gray dress and a cigarette in her hand. Her style changed when she began collaborating with Vincent Scotto and started appearing in his Marseilles operettas. She stopped performing after she married a government minister, in what is thought to be the last midnight wedding in France before the onset of the Second World War. Colin 71.
