After World War II, "the days of commercial rail travel were numbered, and the major thrust of the company's advertising campaigns was directed toward the expanding airline business." (Canadian Pacific p. 61). In 1949 two flights a week left Vancouver for Sydney, Australia, and later that same year flights were inaugurated to Tokyo and Hong Kong.
