In the Northwest of Uganda, as the Nile River courses southwards through Africa, it is channeled through a twenty-four foot wide gap followed by a 120 ft drop that results in the powerful Murchison Falls. Discovered by a European in 1864, the falls were named after the President of the Royal Geographic Society, Sir Roderick Murchison.
