In the years following the First World War, Hoffmuller specialized in advertising the many bars that proliferated in the center of Berlin. Although each poster reflected a different artistic style, his subject was almost always a couple having a drink. For Treuherz [True Heart], Hoffmuller adopts a much more modernist style than usual, using only a few simple strokes to create the image of the man in a cap sharing a cocktail with a young lady. The stark simplicity of the image is in direct contrast to many of his other posters, which provides detailed depictions of interiors.
