Additional Details

After studying at the Art Student's League in New York City, Robert Lee Berran got his start at 20th Century Fox where he painted movie posters. He then joined The Illustrators Group, creating work for prestigious clients such as Ford and Coca-Cola, as well as working for studios such as Ross Art, Chate, and Shaw-Barton Calendar House. In 1969, Bob's friend Roger Kastel introduced him to Barbara Bertoli, the Art Director at Avon Books, and Bob began a 25-year period painting romance book covers for publishers including Regency romance, Ballantine, Harlequin, Fawcett, and Ace. This provocative painting is likely one of the first paperback cover illustrations he produced.
