Robert Bonfils worked as an illustrator, bookbinder, painter and decorator and was one of the most active French artists during the Art Deco period. This may be one of the earliest posters promoting travel on the newly formed SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer Francais), as it officially combined all of the French train companies and went into operation in 1938.
