A maquette for the oil and paper collage Black in America sold at Sotheby's, New York in 2008. Additionally, Bearden used a nearly identical image for the cover of The Harvard Advocate Special Issue: Black Odyssey; A Search for Home, Number 4, 1974, which incorporated the African flag into the image.
