RUDOLF BRACKENHAMMER (1876-?) DEUTSCHE KUNSTAUSSTELLUNG STUTTGART. 1921. 35 1/2x23 inches, 90x58 cm. Eckstein & Stähle Hof-Kunstanstalt, Stuttgart. Condition B+: repaired tears, creases and restoration in margins and image; restored loss in bottom left corner; vertical and horizontal folds. Very little biographical information exists about Rudolf Brackenhammer. As an artist he has left behind several paintings and, to the best of our knowledge, just this one poster. His artistic style was much more classical than the modernist image on this poster would suggest. It is a hyper-stylized depiction of a fountain (or perhaps a bird feeder), depicted in two colors against a black background with elegant, equally stylized typography. It is a startlingly avant-garde poster for what was most likely a mundane art exhibition.
