The letter: "I was really delighted . . . that you had found a place for Lillie . . . at $55 per month beginning Jan 1, 1880. I will go and see her tonight and give her two full months value of advice, and I trust she will earn her wages. . . . [S]he is . . . a girl of high principles, and will honestly strive to please all about her. "It is really a relief to her, as I am responsible for her expenses, & have about as much as I can carry now. Tell the head of the office in which you place her that she is committed by her sister Mrs. Moreland of Mobile to my guardianship . . . ."
