First editions of both parts, two quarto volumes bound separately; the present copy with the dedication on the verso of the first title page signed "Ed. Spenser," and the date line widely space with the 1 of "1590" under the r of "for"; with the complimentary sonnets at the end of the volume in the cancelled state only, comprising the fifteen sonnets on unnumbered pages, the original ten sonnets (printed on pages 601-605) cancelled and removed from this copy; spaces left for the Welsh words in lines 4 and 5 on page 332 (volume one, book two, canto 10); the two volumes of different sizes, bound in uniform modern full calf, tooled in gilt; edges of second volume gilt; title page of first part remargined with some losses repaired, following leaf with repair along bottom edge; I: 7 3/8 x 5 in.; II: 7 x 5 in.
