An early and rare poster for skiing in America. De Lappe was a painter, illustrator and director of the Artist's League, in San Francisco, who garnered attention with his 1913 poster for the San Francisco Mechanics Fair. He "came from Santa Rosa to San Francisco and opened offices [in 1906]. His rise in his profession was rapid, his railroad and summer resort posters receiving high commendation, not only in this state, but throughout the east" (San Francisco Call, August 15, 1913, p. 2).
