Bauhaus artist Schawinsky's 'prolific practice spans from paintings to drawings, from experimental photography to stage design, from jazz music and complex theater work to exhibition design, commercial graphic and product design' (schawinsky.com). After the Bauhaus closed in 1933, he worked in Milan for Studio Boggeri, where he created poster and product designs for companies like Motta, Illy, and Olivetti. Reflecting the artist's photographic prowess and theatrical propensity, this poster advertises Olivetti MP1 - the company's first portable typewriter introduced in 1932 and designed by Aldo Magnielli. In 1935, he contributed to the design of the Olivetti Studio 42 model. Modern Poster 187, Avant Garde p. 173, MoMA 500.1987.
