ZIG (LOUIS GAUDIN ?-1936) MAURICE CHEVALIER / CASINO DE PARIS. 1926.
62x46 inches. H. Chachoin. Paris.
Condition B: restoration along vertical and horizontal folds.
After Mistinguett and Maurice Chevalier stopped living together and performing together in the early 1920s, they began criss-crossing each other at different Parisian venues. Their performances were all marked by exceptional lithographic publicity. In 1926 Mistinguett was starring at the Moulin Rouge in a show that was advertised with Charles Gesmar's famous poster of her with a rose in her mouth. At the same time Maurice Chevalier was starring in this revue at the rival Casino de Paris. This poster, the only one that Zig ever produced for Chevalier (he went on to do several for Mistinguette), is an extremely rare image. Soon after this show, Chevalier chose Charles Kiffer to be his exclusive poster designer.
