iconographically influential edition, the first Haggadah illustrated with engraved rather than woodcut illustrations, "which were destined to be copied and imitated more than those of any other Haggadah in history" (Yerushalmi). These were the work of a German Christian convert to Judaism who borrowed heavily from the Bible engravings of Matthaeus Merian the Elder.
