"One of the fundamental books on Arctic Exploration." (Hill) Captain George Back commanded this expedition in search of Captain John Ross to the Back River, which he traced to the Frozen Ocean. His narrative is full of details about the Cree, Chippewas, Coppermine Indians and other tribes. His journey of 7,500 miles included travel over 1,200 miles of previously uncharted territory.
