DERINGER, JR., HENRY. Partly-printed vellum Document Signed, twice, indenture between "Henry Derringer [sic] of the County of Philadelphia Gun and Rifle Manufacturer" and Edward Ingersoll and wife, in which the latter transfers to Deringer a plot of land on the East side of Front Street in Philadelphia. On the verso is written a manuscript indenture, transferring the same land back to the Ingersolls on April 1, 1824. Signed at the lower right of each indenture. 16 1/2x22 inches, scalloped upper edge; folds, minor scattered soiling, few tiny holes at folds lower left. Philadelphia, 22 March 1820

Additional Details

Deringer (1786-1869) invented the short-barrelled, large-bore percussion pocket pistol that was known as the "Derringer." The differing spelling is partly due to the fact that the design was widely copied and sold by others under the name having the variant spelling.
