Beautiful red lacquer album with a rare pictorial relief of a geisha, with 50 hand-colored Japanese studies, including street scenes throughout Tokyo, Nikko, Yokohama, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, and Nagasaki, occupational portraits, and studies of geishas. Hand-colored albumen prints, 8x10 1/4 inches (20.3x26 cm.), and the reverse, with a caption and inventory number in the negative; original tissue guards, foxed and/or creased. Folio, period red lacquer highlighted with gilt, ivory and mother-of-pearl inlay; leather backstrip; all edges gilt. 1890s
