Luii after he finished his extensive art studies in Amsterdam, and stayed with the firm through the start of the Second World War. For this beer poster Wijga has created a compelling, detailed still life, using an elegant illustrator's style. It is a well-balanced composition that presents the beer in majesty. Such a malt portrait was not a new idea for Wijga, as he designed a very similar poster for Amstel in 1929, which showed a glass of beer en situ on a kitchen table! Modern Dutch p. 128.
